Global buyers have so far canceled or suspended orders of readymade garment products worth US$1.98 billion from Bangladesh (updated on 23 March). Many fashion brands have shut their stores in Europe and North America due to the coronavirus outbreak which leads to this order cancellation and suspension.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association said that more than 1089 RMG factories informed the trade body till 23 march they had received order cancellation or shipment delay notices from the buyers for export orders worth US$1.98 billion.

This situation spotlighted a question: Will the manufacturers continue their production? After conducting a survey BGMEA got mentioned data which showed most of the factories want to run their production.

Asif Ibrahim, Director, BGMEA said, “We informed each of our member factory if they want to close their factory, they have to do it following all rules and regulations of labor law.”

“As of now seven factories have shut their units,” he mentioned.
