Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, President, ITET & Managing Director of Hams Group highlighted that Bangladesh’s textile and apparel (T&A) industry is the leader in green factories. He said this in his speech at ‘Sustainable textiles summit 2022’ in New Delhi.

The two day (22-23 September) ‘Sustainable textiles summit 2022’ organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries took place in PHD House, New Delhi. With the theme ‘Sustainable and Circular Textile.’
Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman said, “Bangladesh is the second largest apparel sourcing country and most importantly we have the most number of LEED Certified Green textile and apparel factories in the world – with 167 factories, with 50 platinum-rated, 103 gold-rated, 10 silver-rated and 4 LEED Certified. Notably, Out of the top 10 USGBC LEED certified factories, 7 are in Bangladesh. On top of it, more are in the pipeline to achieve green.”
The Sustainable textiles summit was divided into various knowledge-sharing sessions – where leaders from the textile industry took part and disseminated their knowledge.
Upendra Prasad Singh, secretary, ministry of textiles govt. of India was the chief guest in the event.
Dept. of Textile and Fiber Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology was the knowledge partner of the seminar.
