Bangladesh University of Textiles conquers BTV National Debate competition

Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) has been crowned the champion of the First National TV Debate Competition organized by Bangladesh Television Centre, Chittagong. The Grand Final of the event was held on 2nd September where BUTEX defeated Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Jahangirnagar University.

The proposal of the final debate was “Educational Institutes play a bigger role in developing manner and etiquette compared to the family”. Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Jahangirnagar University was defending the proposal while the winning team, Bangladesh University of Textiles was on the opposing side.

The debaters representing the Bangladesh University of Textiles were students of Batch 43rd. They are Shakil Ahmed Sagar (Department of Textile Engineering Management), MD. Muzahidur Rahman (Department of Apparel Engineering) and Naeem Mahmud (Department of Wet Processing Engineering). The best speaker in the final round was Shakil Ahmed Sagar.

The President of Bangladesh University of Textiles Debating Club, Shakil Ahmed Sagar expressed his dream of representing the Bangladesh University of Textiles on a national stage. In his own words, “Bangladesh University of Textiles is my identity, I have always dreamt of representing my university at the biggest stage.

Every debater in the Bangla debate circuit cherishes a dream of the stage of Bangladesh Television. Winning this competition, and holding my beloved University’s flag at this stage is a dream comes true. This accomplishment is dedicated to every one of this university. This new landmark is like a beautiful dream coming true.“

The Chief Guest of this grand event was Dr. Muhammad Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Information of the government of Bangladesh. Journalist M A Malek, editor of The Daily Azad and Ekushe Padak honorary, former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, A J M Nasiruddin, and many others were present as Special guests of the event.

In his speech, honorable minister Hasan Mahmud said, “A society without debate and criticism cannot be constructive and beautiful. To reach a conclusive right decision, we need a debate in our society”.

104 teams throughout the entire country participated in this debate competition arranged at Bangladesh Television Centre, Chittagong. The competition was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury. 6 rounds of the debate were organized in this competition.

The semifinal of this competition was organized on 26th August where both Bangladesh University of Textiles and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Jahangirnagar University won against their opponents.
