Bangladesh’s LEED certified green factory jumps to 163

Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry set a benchmark of sustainability by reaching 163 LEED-certified Green factories. Of them, 49 are platinum-rated, 100 gold-rated and 10 are silver-rated.

Mohiuddin Rubel, Director, BGMEA said, “Bangladesh has the largest number of green factories in the world and they are moving towards a sustainable and green infrastructure in the apparel sector.”

According to the BGMEA, LEED certification status based on June- July 2022-Sharmin Fashion Ltd-Unit 2- achieved LEED, Platinum-83 and AKH knitting & Dyeing Ltd, Ext unit achieved LEED Gold by USGBC.

Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA congratulated the factories on winning the award and expressed appreciation for their efforts to lessen carbon emissions and global warming and their pledge to a healthy and sustainable future.
