BGMEA audit garment factories to guarantee health and safety practice

To ensure that the garment factories are complying with the health and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is sending numerous audit teams for surprise factory visits.

The audit teams are headed by six board of directors of BGMEA and the reports are evaluated every day.

On 2 May, 49 factories were audited where conditions of 46 factories were found satisfactory. Including this, a total of 196 factories were audited and the situation in 190 factories was found satisfactory. The other 6 factories which required improvements were suggested immediate corrective action plan to resume operations, otherwise, it will be reported to necessary authority.

The audit team will ensure:

  • Visiting zones checking safety protocols and density
  • In cases of lapses or deviations, industrial police and DMP to be notified
  • Day end Reports being received and being reviewed by BGMEA office bearers
