BGMEA President also said, “Because, the conventional rules of the industry are no longer. Not sleeping, often being challenged. The bottom line is that to take the industry to a higher level of excellence, there is no alternative to adapting to product design changes, reducing lead times, adopting the latest technology, reducing production costs and making factories more sustainable.”

He made the remarks at a meet-the-press event held in BGMEA Center, Uttara, Dhaka.

“You know one of the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution is technology and automation. We are working to turn the challenges of the upcoming fourth industrial crisis into opportunities. The Innovation Center will provide clear guidance and support to turn this challenge into an opportunity. 4th in Innovation Center.” Faruque Hassan said.

Later Faruque Hassan inaugurated ‘Centers of Innovation, Efficiency and OSH’ (CIEOSH) for its member factories to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s garment industry. The primary objective of setting up this center will be to find out the areas where the textile sector of Bangladesh has failed to keep pace with other countries in terms of productivity and efficiency, develop curricula based on the needs of the industry and modify the curriculum in line with the trends.

The center will have a pool of highly trained trainers, who will train employees to keep up with current and upcoming industry trends. This innovation center is designed in such a way that it can work to meet all the challenges that the Bangladesh apparel industry is currently facing and may face in the future.

Hassan said, “Today will be a milestone in the history of the fashion industry. As we are launching the center of innovation, occupational safety and health for the apparel industry ‘The Center for Innovation, Efficiency and OSH.’ This will enhance capacity building, sustainable vision implementation and competitiveness in our readymade garment (RMG) industry. At the same time, this center has been established to promote harmony.”

“With the massive change in technology, the apparel industry has reached a point, either the industry has to evolve and move forward or the industry will die out,” Faruque Hassan said.

CIEOSH will include courses on digital sampling, 3D prototyping and other modern technologies and software to meet the challenges of the industrial revolution so that the industry can keep pace with the global market and reach higher levels of excellence.

The center will conduct extensive research and provide specialized training to enhance the capacity of mid-level management and improve workers’ mobility. This will increase productivity in the industry. The center will also help the industry to become environment friendly, green and energy efficient.

In the event Saila Akther Nova, Centre Coordinator presented a presentation to showcase CIEOSH’s objective and vision.
