BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said, BGMEA is committed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the country’s garment industry workers, especially women workers who are at the heart of the industry.
He said this at an event organized at UNICEF House in Dhaka on Monday (March 12).

Faruque Hassan said, as we recognize the crucial role that the workers play in this industry, it is imperative and essential for us to take care of their health which is directly related to their productivity.
“Our proactive involvement with the Government of Bangladesh and UNICEF in the Mother@Work project is a prime example is how the industry is trying to improve the healthcare of women workers in the garment sector,” he pointed out while speaking at the event.
He further said that we are working with stakeholders and member factories to improve the health of mothers and children. Adequate maternity facilities and breastfeeding-friendly workplaces contribute to deep job satisfaction and organizational loyalty among factory workers.
In his speech, he said, “Most of our factories now know that there are many business benefits to be gained by supporting breastfeeding mothers in the workplace and factories are becoming increasingly aware of this.”
He urged all stakeholders including the media to appreciate and promote the good initiatives being taken by the garment factories of the country, going beyond the legal obligations for the welfare of the workers.
Kenny Liu, Vice President and General Manager (Retail, Branding and Information Solutions), South Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa of Avery Dennison; Siddhartha C Reddy, Vice President (Finance, Solutions Group), Avery Dennison, USA; Sazzad Hossain, General Manager, Avery Dennison, Bangladesh were present at the program and from UNICEF, Dr. Saja Farooq Abdullah, Chief of Field Service; Dr. Safina Abdul Loeva, Nutrition Manager; Elisa Cortes Gil, Chief Resource Mobilization and Partnerships, and Piyali Mustphil, Chief Nutrition also attended the event.
