President of MCCI Md Saiful Islam presided over the discussion which was also attended by immediate past President of MCCI Barrister Nihad Kabir, incumbent MCCI Senior Vice President of MCCI Kamran T. Rahman and other business leaders.

Shahidullah Azim said, “RMG factories need several licenses, especially trade license and licenses from the departments of environment, fire and other government departments to operate business. These licenses are required to be renewed every year. The factories have to remain busy round the year to renew the different licenses, which hamper their business operations.”

The Acting BGMEA President said it’s very important to improve ease of doing business to boost trade and attract more investment, and the government support is needed in this regard.

He called for extending the issuance and renewal of licenses for five years, saying it would bring transparency in doing business while the government would earn revenue from license issuance and renewal for 5 years at once, which is in alignment with the government of vision of digital Bangladesh.

Shahidullah Azim urged the government to continue trade license renewal and other services for the garment factories located in Dhaka city on easy conditions and not to mix up holding tax with trade license.

He also requested the government to ease trade license issuance and not to change trade license renewal fee frequently.
