The growing demand for electric energy in developing countries like Bangladesh is now a day became the key concern of international project investors. It is well known that energy plays a vital role in poverty eradication, economic growth, sustainable infrastructure development and the security of any country.
In Bangladesh, electricity is the most widely used form of energy. So, future economic growth significantly depends on the availability of electricity. Bangladesh Government has taken various projects to meet this rapidly growing demand for electricity.

The Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) an enterprise of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, is performing the role of Executing Agency to implement the ‘Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Plant’ Project with the financial assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In this project SGS Bangladesh Ltd, being honored to be a part of their Environmental Monitoring activities till 2024 for power plant units 1 & 2. In continuation SGS BD being engaged in conducting a preparatory survey and ESIA study for power plant units 3 & 4.
As part of this initiative on 6th February 2021, CPGCBL management visited the SGS facility to Exchange their perspective with SGS management. The honorable Managing Director of CPGCBL Md. Abdul Mottalib along with the Executive Director, Chief Engineer and other officials of CPGCBL were present at the event.
The Honorable Country Manager of SGS Bangladesh, Md. Abdur Rashid welcomed the guest. Manager Marketing & Sales, Key Account and Customer Service of SGS, Mahfuzur Rahman presented the SGS service activity among the audience. Manager Environment, Health and Safety of SGS, Zakir Hossain Khan presented the overall service scope of EHS and project engagement activities among the CPGCBL representatives. Later on, the CPGCBL representative team had a physical tour of the SGS facility led by the Chemical Laboratory Manager, Rafiqul Islam.
CPGCBL management praised after viewing the investment and service scope of SGS BD and appreciated to see such intensive activities of the SGS laboratory. They expressed their gratitude to SGS management for such a warm welcome and hospitality. SGS management also expressed thanks to CPGCBL management for such initiatives and the expected long-term partnership of both the company. The session ended up with a group photo session and greetings exchanged.
