‘Discovering the horizon’ seminar gives students a chance to interact with BUTEXian heroes

We dream. But how many of us can reach that desired dream? The persons who live their dream and make their own way to reach the ultimate success are recognized as our torchbearers of hope and their shown paths of experience are always like pearls for us.

With a view to giving an opportunity for students to know and interact with such BUTEXian heroes, Bangladesh university of Textiles (BUTEX) arranged a grand seminar entitled ‘Discovering the horizon’ at BUTEX Seminar room on 19th December, 2017 in association with BUTEX Business club. Vice Chancellor of BUTEX Professor Engr. Mashud Ahmed was the chief guest where two successful BUTEXians in the field of research, Dr. Nazmul Karim, Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the University of Manchester and Honorary Technical Editor of Bangladesh Textile Today and Khondaker Haque, Former Cloud Solution Architect, Microsoft were the keynote speakers.

Professor Eng. Mashud Ahmed instructed the students to gain multi-dimensional capacities incorporated with textile academic knowledge. He also stated that two new departments in BUTEX will be inaugurated very soon with the pace of modern trend of textile technology and market demand. So we need develop ourselves to be very skilled and multi-tasking new generation textile engineers to face the challenges of 21st century textile world. Lastly, he told students to think broadly, prescribed to solve textile related academic problemsevery day that will create problem-solving mentality, which paves the way of your perfect decision making capacity in future.

Khondaker Haque said, “Before knowing one’s success, we must know his failure stories. To be successful in life, one must be adaptive, humble and performing own prayers daily. After completing graduation from BUTEX, I was successfully finished MBA at IBA. Then, in 2010, I got myself admittedin NewYork University. After doing my SWOT analysis I noticed that I hadn’t much opportunities there as I had a background in textile engineering.”

“I tried to find out the gap in the existing sectors in New York where I was being able to be successful by working there. At last, I selected IT sector and worked on there. In the journey of working in several IT companies, I was being able to work with most prestigious IT Company named Microsoft. Business communication skill, interpersonal skills and other soft skills must be learnt to survive the world with proper dignity and honor by performing your desired activities. Saying my prayer and being obliged to my parents were the best qualities which enabled me to work in such a prestigious company like Microsoft”, he added.

Dr. Nazmul Karim presented a presentation, which covered about his own research field named Graphene based wearable E-Textiles, versatile graphene uses for mankind, big possibility of cost and weight reduction for manufacturing high value added products where weight is a big issue for the manufacturers and graphene extraction process.

He said, “We have a negative conception about PhD that this will waste your valuable time. But, the truth is PhD creates a platform where you can acquire those necessary skills for your life such as team building, interpersonal skill, communication skill, presentation skill, critical thinking, adaptability to different environment and problem solving ability”.

In this program, Dr. Kamrul Hassan, renowned entrepreneur in textile sector handed over a check worth 20 million to BUTEX VC for the formation of a trust. He advised the students never to be disappointed and always work on themselves. “Textile has a huge sector where you have lots of opportunity to work on there and attain your desired success”, he added.
