The industrial sector is incurring a loss of about Tk 11.31 billion per day due to a nationwide Coronavirus lockdown in Bangladesh. The major exporting garment sector of the country is also shut down for about the last month which increases the liability every single day.

Major garments exporting destinations are EU countries and the USA of Bangladesh. This week three-member delegates of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) met with European Union (EU) high officials at the EU Dhaka office.
Md. Fazlul Hoque, Ex-President of BKMEA; Mohammad Hatem, 1st Vice President and Fazle Shamim Ehsan, Director of BKMEA represented the team of BKMEA while Jeremy Opritesco, Deputy Head of Mission and Maurizio Cian, Head of Cooperation took part in the meeting on behalf of EU.
EU officials expressed their high concern about the deadlock in the RMG export of Bangladesh. BKMEA and EU representatives discussed in detail about the present and the future crisis of the sector and possible ways to overcome it.
As the biggest partner of Bangladesh’s apparel export EU now planning to come up with some supporting programs for the badly affected workers group.
Details of the plans will be revealed soon according to BKMEA officials.
