FTA signing among BD and Bhutan is likely

Bangladesh is expected to sign a Preferential Trade Agreement with Bhutan (FTA) soon as the two countries are keen to boost trade

M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs on 22 October conversed the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and diverse trade issues with Rinchen Kuentsyl, Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh.

Earlier today, the Bhutanese envoy made a call on the state minister at the foreign ministry.

a foreign ministry statement said, both also talked about ways to progress cooperation on education, health and IT sectors.

The Bhutanese ambassador displayed an interest in State Minister Shahriar Alam’s offer that Bhutan provide technical assistance in setting up a vegetable processing plant in Bangladesh.

Also, both parties discussed organizing a joint program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bhutan’s recognition of Bangladesh’s independence.
