High-level committee formed to ensure safety in industries

Workplace safety is an ongoing process that relies not only on a safe physical working environment but also on effective communication between workers and management.

Recently The Prime Minister’s Office formed a 24-member high-level committee led by Prime Minister’s Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman.

This committee was formed to ensure a safe environment and prevent accidents in factories, industrial and commercial establishments, and mills.

As per government notification issued in this direction, under the leadership of BIDA (Bangladesh Investment Development Authority), FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries), BGMEA, and all concerned Government and non-Government authorities will immediately inspect all the industries on the spot.

Commerce Minister, the Minister for Industries, State Minister for Labour and Employment, State Minister for Housing and Public Works, the local MPs, and the Mayors of the concerned city corporations or municipalities are reported, amongst the 24 members of the committee.

Also, the functions of which include taking necessary measures reviewing the observations and recommendations received from the field inspection by the responsible committee.

Besides that, its functions also include monitoring the dealings of the legal authorities concerned with factories, mills, industrial and commercial establishments, taking necessary steps after reviewing the practical laws, rules, policies, guidelines, and instructions regarding the infrastructures of the factories.

Then establishments, monitoring the implementation of the relevant laws, rules, policies, guidelines, and instructions and taking necessary steps to bring all those involved in the management and workers of mills and factories under training over the fire and other accidents.

Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, PMO secretary said, “The functions of the committee include taking necessary measures reviewing the observations and recommendations received from the field inspection by the responsible authority or committee.”

Besides, the committee will submit necessary recommendations for the consideration of the government.
