The idea ‘to replace one-time use polythene’ wins Hult Prize 2020 at BUTEX

The grand finale of the Hult Prize at BUTEX 2020 came to an end at Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) auditorium on 7 December 2019. Team Eco Solution came out as the Champion with their self-developed bio poly-film to replace one-time use polythene.

Hult prize, also known as the Nobel prize for students, was established by Bertil Hult, which brings up ideas from university students after challenging them to solve a burning social issue each year. In order to assist the winning team, the Hult family donates one million dollars. This prize is a partnership between Hult International Business School and the United Nations Foundation.

Universities all over the world run internal competitions to pre-qualify teams, which they send into the main competition. Campus round at BUTEX is such an initiative. Around 1,00,000 students from 40 countries got the opportunity to attend the final round to be organized by United Nations Global Clinton Initiative and Hult International Business School last year which focused on launching disruptive social enterprises that are impact centered, profit-minded, and market-driven.

The new challenge of Hult prize 2020 is building startups that have a positive impact on our planet with every dollar earned. Keeping the challenge in mind 200 teams participated in the online round by submitting their plans; from those teams, only 21 were selected based on the lucidity of their ideas. After the semi-final round, the best 6 teams were chosen for the grand finale by assessing their presentation to achieve the honorable title of ‘Campus Champion’.

In the final round, the judges had quite a hard time to select the winners where Team Eco Solution came out as the Champion. Team Green-BD and Team Mads came out as the 1st and 2nd runner up respectively. The finalist teams were all awarded with a prestigious certificate of the Hult where the top 3 teams received special crests for their marvelous effort.
