Instant spray-on fabric sprayed on the body forms any dress you like

clip_image002We have come a long way with wearable technology embedded into fabric to create a fashion statement. Still, we lack materials that once we are fed up of can be used again to make something new, this without having to stitch or weave. But with the development of a new spray-on fabric, which dries on hitting human skin, forming a garment of choice that can be washed or re-worn, the latter may just come true.

clip_image004Developed through collaboration between Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art, projected headed by Spanish designer Dr Manel Torres, this Fabrican design spray-on fabric in aerosol can consists of cotton fibers and polymers with solvents to keep it liquid. The fabric is created by cross-linking of fibers that adhere to one another forming an instant non-woven fabric that is sprayed on to the wearer.

clip_image006The liquid fabric can be sprayed onto a surface to form anything from T-shirts, dresses, trousers to swim-wear or even hats. The spray-on dresses will be shown at London Fashion Week, so in case you can’t wait a few years before you have a spray-on dress of your own, then make sure you are in London for the fashion week.
