Two days international seminar on “Strengthening of Collaboration for Jute, Kenaf & Allied Fibres Research & Development” opened on June 08, 2011 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka. The seminar was organized by International Jute Study Group ( IJSG ) in collaboration with Common Fund for Commodities (CFS). “Creation of Synergies through Cooperation in Research-Production-Market” was the main theme of the seminar.
Mr. Abdul Latif Siddique, MP, Honorable Minister of Textile & Jute,Govt. of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh was present as Chief Guest while Jute and Textiles Secretary Mr. M Ashraful Makbul presided over the seminar.
“We will never get the fair prices for jute products, if Bangladesh and India go for competition in the international market over the production and marketing of jute goods,” minister said. He also said that the present Govt. is working for development of jute.
International Jute Study Group (IJSG) Secretary General Mr. Bhupendra Singh, Senior Project Manager, Common Fund for Commodities Mr.Sietse van der Werff, European Union (EU) Ambassador Mr.William Hanna and Indian High Commissioner Mr. Rajeet Mitter also addressed at the function.
Dr.Shahwahid Othman, Professor, Institute of Tropical Forestry & Forest Products,UPM,Malaysia , Dr J V Rao, Director, Northern India Textile Research Association , India as well as Prof Dr S M Imamul Huq, Chairman,Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR),Dhaka were present as a Key note speakers in the seminar.
Resource persons from Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Poland, UK, as well as USA presented 38 papers on different segments of Jute, Kenaf & allied fibres in the seminar which consists was six technical sessions.
