Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) export witnessed about 52% growth to $3.8 billion in December 2021. Which was $2.5 billion in 2020 and $2.8 billion in 2019.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) came up with the calculation based on the National Board of Revenue (NBR) data as the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) is yet to make the official statement.
While in the 2021 calendar year, Bangladesh’s RMG export witnessed about 30% growth to $35.57 billion.
According to exporters, the apparel export industry witnessed the growth in spite of a sequence of lockdowns, Eid holiday-led factory shutdown and vulnerable export due to the countrywide transport strikes against diesel price hikes.
Faruque Hassan, President, BGMEA told media that apparel export has been posing a higher growth for the past few months compared to the 2019-20 fiscal year, which saw Covid devastation across the globe.
Hassan also said apparel-makers witnessed growth in terms of both export volume and prices.
