During the exchange of views, he said that the export-oriented garment industry is currently going through a transitional period. With the wounds of Covid-19 still lingering in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, the economy has been volatile for a long time due to inflation in Europe and America, the main export markets of our ready-made garment industry. In spite of all the adversities, the growth of this industry increased by 35.47 percent in the last financial year.

He emphasized the use of contemporary technology for industrial development and technological advancement and enhancing design and branding capabilities. To survive in the international environment operations need to be conducted with a lot of awareness and prudence and everyone’s cooperation is absolutely necessary for this, he said.

He added that the apparel summit ‘Made in Bangladesh Week (MIBW) 2022’ to be held on November 12-18 will be important in enhancing the image of Bangladesh’s garment industry and continuing its progress in the global market.

BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam said in his welcome speech that the garment industry is the driving force of our national economy. The contribution of this industry to sustaining the country’s growth is unprecedented, especially when the world was on the brink of collapse during the Covid-19 pandemic.

BGMEA Senior Vice President S.M. Mannan Kochi said that the present Board of Directors of BGMEA is working for the welfare of the garment industry with responsibility and accountability. He urged everyone to work unitedly to face the current challenges and take the garment industry forward.

In the event BGMEA President Faruque Hassan gave special greetings to the 30 new BGMEA member companies in Chittagong as new entrepreneurs.

BGMEA Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury moderated the discussion meeting where Vice President Md. Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Director Abdullah Hill Rakib, Tanveer Ahmed, Md Khosru Chowdhury, Harun-or-Rashid, Rajiv Chowdhury, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan with others and a large number of garment industry owners were present.
