The Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), under the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday, 01 April 2021 at 4:00 pm.
This MOU will pave the way for long term collaboration between SREDA and BGMEA – describing a range of activities for capacity development of BGMEA member factories on energy efficiency and renewable energy, easy access to information on rooftop solar project implementation, facilitating garment industries to avail low-cost green finance, joint promotion of industries working towards sustainability, etc.
Secretary of SREDA, Niaz Rahman and Secretary of BGMEA, Commodore Mohammad Abdur Razzak, NUP, ndc, psc (Retd) will sign the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations. The event will be broadcasted virtually.

On behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, SREDA promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency and works on creating an enabling environment for sustainable energy development in the country.
On the other hand, BGMEA, the apex body representing the readymade garment industry in Bangladesh, constantly aspires to ensure sustainability for its member factories through supporting them in enhancing competitiveness, including, the sustainable use of energy and resource efficiency.
Energy Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BB will join the event as Chief Guest. State Minister for Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid MP and Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus will join the event as Special Guests.
BGMEA’s Senior Vice-President Faisal Samad and Washim Zakaria Standing Committee on RDTI and SDG were present at the event. Maj Gen Md Nazrul Islam, Executive Chairman, BEPZA virtually attended the event.
Country Director of GIZ Bangladesh Dr. Angelika Fleddermann will join the event as a guest of honor.
Chairman, SREDA Mohammad Alauddin, said, business entities are integral to sustainable energy development. Therefore, this cooperation with BGMEA is a milestone in strengthening the partnership and collaboration to jointly work for building a sustainable future.
Dr. Rubana Huq, President of BGMEA said we are heading towards a future that would demand sustainability to be upheld at the core of any business. Undoubtedly, energy is to remain at the center of such development. In light of that, this MOU particularly announces expectations and aspirations for the future partnership between BGMEA and SREDA.
