The Department of Textile Engineering, World University of Bangladesh to embrace its 10th-year celebration has organized three-day long debate competition titled ‘WUB National Debate Championship 2019’ in association with Bangladesh Debate Federation.
The inauguration ceremony was held on September 26th; thirty-two prominent colleges along with thirty distinguished universities competed in the group stage on 27 September. The semi-final and final of both colleges and universities were held on September 28th. Moreover, the prize-giving ceremony of the competitors was held at 3.30 pm, 28th.
Honorable Vice-Chancellor of WUB Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury adorned the chair of special-guest. And Prof. Abul Kashem, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Textiles was the chief guest in this program.
Prof. Dr. Mushfiq M. Choudhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees of WUB; Md Mofaqkherul Islam, Executive Director of Hameem Group; Syed Abul Maksud, prominent journalist, columnist, writer and Abdullah Md. Sukhrana, President of Bangladesh Debate Federation were present as special guests in the prize-giving ceremony.
All the speakers opined that this type of debate program will go a long way to make the students determined to build a better Bangladesh.
A total of 60 teams – from colleges and universities combined – took part in the debating competition.
The whole competition was conducted by Dr. MD Abdul Mannan Chowdhury; Md Mostafizur Rahman (Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Textile Engineering, WUB); Dibakar Chowdhury (Associate professor, WUB) and other members of club and organizing secretaries.
In the college segment, a team from SOS Hemann Gmeiner College and another team from Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College went to the final. Finally, after a tense debate, SOS Hemann Gminier College became the champion and Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College became runner up.
In the University students segment, the team from IBA department of Dhaka University and Chittagong University went to the final.
And the team of IBA department of Dhaka University became champion in this competition.
The college segments students addressed the real problematic issues in government’s social curriculum activities while the university segment teams highlighted the grave issue, excessive participation of foreign employees in the textile and RMG industry were discussed in the final round. Textile Today enrolled as a media partner in this debate competition.
