Until now, nano-silver based antimicrobials have faced several problems; they have been expensive to use, exhibited poor durability and were difficult to apply evenly to the substrate. Yorkshire has developed the new IntraSilver suite of products to overcome these challenges. The IntraSilver suite of products are nano-silver based antimicrobial products combined with a unique moisture management system that are exhaustible, durable, can be evenly distributed on the substrate and endow an economic nano-silver based finish. In addition, the IntraSilver range of products imparts a durable moisture management finish to the substrate.
The IntraSilver group of products is designed for exhaust application only. Typical use levels range from 3.0 – 5.0% owg with normal use level in the range of 3.0 – 3.5% owg. Due to the fact that the IntraSilver products are applied via exhaustion, wash durability of 50 home launderings is to be expected. Furthermore, due to the incorporation of the moisture management technology with the nano-silver technology, bacterial eradication is exponentially higher compared with other nano-silver based antimicrobials. The IntraSilver moisture management finish yields typical vertical wicking results of 20 cm in 5 minutes.
Due to the extremely high efficiency of moisture management resin, the IntraSilver suite of products will impart soil release properties to the substrate. At 3.0% application levels, a grey scale rating of 5 is achievable. Finally, the application of the IntraSilver finish will produce a luxurious handle. Typically, fabrics finished with IntraSilver require no additional softeners or handle modifiers.
As previously mentioned, the IntraSilver suite of products incorporates nano-silver technology in conjunction with moisture management properties. It is a fact that bacteria become excited by the presence of moisture. By merging nano-silver with moisture management resin technology, Yorkshire has insured maximum efficiency in bacterial eradication. The results yielded per AATCC Test Method 147-2004, Antibacterial Activity Assessment of Textile Materials: Parallel Streak Method, prove that Yorkshire has achieved 99.9% efficiency in bacterial eradication via the use of the IntraSilver products.

The IntraSilver suite consists of four specialised products. These are:-

- IntraSilver WOL
IntraSilver CEL is specifically designed for cellulosic fibres, IntraSilver PA is specifically designed for polyamide fibres, IntraSilver SRE is specifically designed for polyester fibres and IntraSilver WOL is specifically designed for wool and other animal fibres. As outlined previously, the IntraSilver range of products are designed for exhaust application only. Application via pad may lead to a reduction in colourfastness properties of the treated substrate.
The general application method for each of the products in the IntraSilver suite is outlined below.
- IntraSilver PA: Exhaust at 90º C for 20 minutes in a fresh bath after application of fixing agent.
- IntraSilver SRE: Exhaust at 100º C for 20 minutes in a fresh bath after reduction clearing.
- IntraSilver WOL: Exhaust at 60º C for 20 minutes in a fresh bath after application of fixing agent (if used).
- IntraSilver CEL: Exhaust at 50º C for 20 minutes in a fresh bath after soaping and application of fixing agent.
